HILLCREST MUSIC PROGRAM
began in October 1971 with music by Irene Fraser until early 1982 when Pat Vincent served as organist and in March of that year, Anne White began directing the adult and youth choirs. Senior Choir, presently 23 singers, leads the congregational hymns each Sunday offering anthems for regular Sunday worship and music for special services and concerts. Come join us Wednesdays at 7:00 PM from September to June to sing together and socialize with this fine group of welcoming folks. Our Youth Choir, in early 2024 involves 14 young people from 8 families ranging in age from 4 to 17. All young singers are welcome at our regular 10:00 AM practises Sunday during the school year. We offer great opportunities for group singing instruction and also solo or duet coaching for talented keeners to sing at church or in concerts or festivals. Over the years, there has been a Men’s Choir from time to time plus a Ladies’ Choir singing occasionally and at special music events such as gospel and youth concerts. The much-loved annual May FEAST of MUSIC concert has, for over 30 years, featured our adult and youth choirs, a guest choir and the Sibbick Sibling Singers. For the past 10 years, we have presented a summertime Family and Friends concert which offers soloists and small groups an opportunity to perform for an appreciative audience. Concerts by visiting musicians and choirs – such as the UPEI Music Program, A Joyful Sound, Kings County Music Festival - are welcomed in our sanctuary with our 5’3” Yamaha baby grand piano. In March 2020, as the pandemic began, Sara and Andrea White sang for our weekly worship broadcast, joined in the summer by soloists of all ages from our church family. In June 2020, Youth Choir resumed rehearsals and Senior Choir started “spaced out” practises in the fall. In the spring, 2021, choirs were again offering anthems for worship. We have passed the 4 year mark of broadcasting our Sunday services on YouTube and Mixlr. We are pleased to have a very active Music Program at Hillcrest with these competent keyboard players sharing their talents from time to time: Sara White, Milton Ingalls, Timothy and Elizabeth Wisnicki. Instrumentalists on Celtic harp, guitar, flute, violin etc. are welcomed during worship and at special services and concerts. We appreciate all who sing regularly in our choirs and those who join us from time to time. Our spring FEAST of MUSIC concert is scheduled for 7:00 PM, Sunday, May 26th; we will be presenting our Family and Friends concert in the summer; and we will welcome soloists and small ensembles, both young and young-at-heart, to provide special music at regular Sunday worship during July and August with hymn leadership by our adult choir. |
